Seating is where good intentions meet real family dynamics. A little structure goes a long way.
Plan for the real number
Invitations rarely equal attendance. Ask your caterer how they handle a final headcount and plan seating for slightly more than your confirmed number.
Seat by comfort, not by rank
- Place elders and young children close to entrances, restrooms and food counters.
- Keep friends together; mixing groups too aggressively tends to backfire.
- Leave one or two open tables for late arrivals.
Keep the paths clear
Allow wide walkways between tables and avoid placing seating directly in front of counters, where queues form.
Share the layout
Ask the venue for a floor plan early and mark the stage, counters and exits so everyone planning is working from the same picture.
